I found out today that Ludovic Tezier has been awarded the title of Chevalier des Art et Lettres, which is, as far as i am aware of, the highest distinction the French state can bestow upon one of its artists. Congratulations!!!!!
Find out more and see some pictures of the ceremony, which took place yesterday before the Oneghin premiere at Opera Bastille from this fan blog.
And because i believe this is not only very well deserved, but that Ludovic Tezier is a wonderful artist, not sufficiently well known to the public, i've decided to have a little celebration of my own on this occasion, and share with you some of the reasons why i admire his language skills and diction, his style, his voice, his elegant and rich musicality. In no particular order of preference.....
Enjoy!

The only thing left for me to say is actually a big question: Why, oh why does he not sing at the ROH????????? And i mean now, today, not x years ago or in concert performances... I'll keep hoping that he will be back in London singing sometimes soon.
With or without distinction, Ludovic Tézier IS a "Chevalier" :))) And a great artist too.
ReplyDeleteAbout the ROH's matter, you should be asking his manager, maybe he knows a thing ... or two.
Because he is singing almost every season at the MET.
Love, love, love Yeletsky's aria ;)
Oh, I forgot...on October 2 in France Musique they are broadcasting Eugene Oneguin ;)
ReplyDeleteHello Kenderina,
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks Kende!!!! I love France Musique and thank God they regularily have these broadcast, because i looked at dates and although i will be in France with work i cannot make it to Paris for the Oneghin :-( agr!!!! Nor do i think i will be able to for the Nozze, and i have seen that not so long ago, so feel a bit less motivated. But still. i'd love to hear it, hopefully it will be on France Musique as well..
ReplyDeleteStill, he should be invited to sing some of these roles here, at the ROH!! There really definitely is too little Verdi, Donizetti here for my taste :-(
I'm not sure there is any contemporary singer who, certainly not that I've heard, who sings in French with such evident pleasure and such panache.
Y vamos allí, a armar bulla y a decir OLÉ. Un saludote!
Thanks for sharing this! I've been discovering M. Tezier backwards, as it were, ever since "that" Werther, which another blogging Kaufmann fan (http://blog.onopera.com) calls "the miracle of Paris." Anyway, the honor would seem to be well-deserved; thanks for sharing the clips. The prospect of his Enrico is what will get me to another Lucia in the spring. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG Lucy, don't tell me you will see Lucia live and with Ludovioc Tezier... sniifff sniff.. i've been Lucia-less for more than 6 years now! I have Lucia cravings i swear! If you mean the Met one i forgive you, i have a ticket for the HD in cinema :-))) But i will still envy you if you see it live :-)
ReplyDeleteI discovered Tezier in the Linda di Chamonix in concert at the ROH and then again during the Werther, baritone version, plus the one in Paris, etc, the more i hear the more i like. For beauty of voice and style and elegance and savoir-etre or how it can be called. Presence? But the kind that comes from good technique and good singing.
Don't worry, it is the Met, you'll get it too! Saw this production Spring '09, but think the cast will be stronger overall this time around, although Piotr Beczala was a great Edgardo. There should be a word for that certain je-ne-sais-quoi you're describing. Maybe presence gets it; assurance, perhaps... a vocal security that translates into listener confidence/happiness. Maybe? Whatever it is, I'll be looking forward to experiencing it in person.
