Bayerische Staatsoper Munich 2011/12 season out now!

The new season is on line here:

And you gotta give it to them, a total singer's fest. The Ring is back, there are Carlos, Traviatas, Bohemes, a new Hoffmann, Cenerentolas, Rosenkavaliers, a new Turandot as well as many many more.

And they have secured: Angela Gheorghiu, Edita Gruberova, Diana Damrau (doing all ladies in the Hoffmann!!!!), Anja Harteros, Rene Fleming, Sophie Koch, Martina Serafin, Anna Netrebko, Joyce DiDonato, Roman Vargas, Jonas Kaufmann, Joseph Calleja, Simon Keenlyside, Pavol Breslik, John Rylea, Bryn Terfel, Alan Held ( the new Hollender), Lawrence Brownlee, Klaus Florian Vogt, Rolando Villazon (Hoffmann!!!), Mariusz Kwiecien (Posa!), Rene Pape (Filippo!), Lance Ryan, etc etc

However much i hate their "schriftliches Bestellungssystem" which this year again has treated me to a refusal you have to give it to them, a season to be very happy about if you live in Munich and dream about if you don't :-) Congratulations are in order i believe!

Check it out!

  1. Some interesting things in Munich. I love Calleja. Happy to see him in Roberto Devereux and Boheme with La Gheorghiu. A lot of Simon Keenlyside as well. He is in four operas and does a recital there too.
Vienna announced its new season also today. Better than this year's season.

  2. fully agree, i think the new directors have made a difference in both cases, good for the local public! I'm afraid given these and the Met that the ROH one will not be all that great but such is life...

  5. This looks great, H. Pretty much the entire Festspiele is excellent and the Don Carlo cast is fantastic (for the most part). Anja is singing it not only in Munich but also in new productions in Zurich and Berlin. My second favorite soprano in my (occasionally) second favorite opera. And Elisabeth is the one role I've never heard well cast.

Of course she'll also feature prominentenly in the excellent ROH season. The Met and Zurich are great too. Some good individual items in Vienna. In general I think a real upgrade from this past season all around (though the Met hasn't been that bad). Maybe I should move to Munich (I actually have a chance to do so but it would be for 3 years so I dunno). Either way I hope I get a chance to see some of these goodies. And you need to finally make you way to the Met. (Walkure a week from Monday - Yippy).

  6. @m yess, the Munich season is fantabulous, great for the local public and i will pray and pray and pray that i will win the ticket lottery and actually get a ticket for that Carlo, one of my favourite things in this world and a cast to die for :-) And it is a great town, do consider!! It's like the fun parts of Italy but with order, great food, nice people, hip town, great music etc :-) I really like it :-) It's absolutely one place where one can spend 3 nice years, just watch out for living costs, which are big for Europe, especially housing. And did i mention they have great cars? ;-))) If you are into that sort of thing ;-)

The ROH season i think is great too, i am absolutely looking forward to every singe production and seeing some many more times than just one, hopefully all, an exicing year ahead!

NOW with Jonas and EMW and BT there i really wish i had gone because no radio or HD will bring the sound as it will be live, but at the time i had to book everything the means were not there, nor ar they now unfortunately :-( But i will get there, Parisfal is on my goal plan and this time i will do my utmost to work towards it and make it happen! I'll have to scarifice things along the way but i really want to go and experience the Met live :-) And hopefully when i make it over the productions will also be something worht to see bec i'm afraid from my point of view this Ring is not, just worht listening to, but not seeing.
Having said that i wish with every cell i was there live next Friday.. i really really really do! But i will be on the radio, so very very very excited in any case :-) More about that when times comes :-)))
