I don't like crossovers, i'm not really into musicals, but i dare you to say this has not touched every fibre of your heart! And he's got the most smooth and beautiful natural voice :-)
I agree with Hariclea -- this is a gorgeous collection and I wasn't expecting to like it at all, for the same reasons you give. But I love it. It's his tone and his sense of the pace of the songs. All told, it's fluid and moving stuff. And he doesn't crush the songs with his big voice -- it's delicately sung, full of balance. The arrangements are fantastic too. Really surprising how good La Strada is. I even like the frog's song
I don't think there is someone who can hear this song and be left untouched. I really love this version of Rolando , probably the best I've heard, because it is very very different but exactly as touching and...Parisian, I always see Paris streets and cafes when I hear Edith Piaf songs;))) And it gave me goosebumps...it is not that easy !!!!
As an aside note, actually only two of the twelve songs come from musicals ;) They belong to the soundtrack of different non-musical films.
Thanks for posting, Hariclea. I don't usually like crossover, either; for the most part (with exceptions, of course), it seems to end up doing neither the song nor the artist any favours. But this is a wonderful CD, totally unexpected, and quite possibly the most personal thing he's ever done. You can tell these songs mean a lot to him because he sings them with real love.
De nuevo la siceridad interpretativa de Rolando Villazón arrasa.El tiene la capacidad de trascender cantando por eso el público le adora...Thank you Hariclea I enjoy it so much that i can't avoid crying any time I listen
