I'm back :-)
Hm just a thought.... thank God i get a dosis of Puccini to start off with, because i then have 10 Mozart lined up ( no, it is not a mistake, it is 10 = 5(ie 4+1)+3+2) .
What do you think, am i in danger of overdosing???
Maybe i should get another sip of Puccini, can't have Mozart on an empty stomach....
By the way, i love the ROH, did you know?
I dunno H. You do seem to be overdosing on the Mozart, and rather extravagantly at that. Having not infrequently been guilty of same myself I'm somewhat ill situated to criticize and, indeed, am rather more inclined to envy. You're stomach should be saved from difficulty as long as the ROH eschews acidic period instruments and one hopes some cream will be forthcoming from the vocal chords of the sopranos involved. The Puccini thus seems unnecessary as an appetizer or side dish but may be quite tasty on its own merits.
ReplyDeleteAll in all the meal looks appetizing but might go down even better with some of the "complementary" champagne they occasionally serve at the ROH (I think) or, in keeping with the flavor of the music, perhaps some Austrian sweet or a drop of Tokaji (though Mozart was a bit more Czech than Hungarian oriented and so perhaps some Beer ... oh never mind).
oh hell, my own blog just rejected me, i wrote a very long response, which boiled down to Mozartkugeln, champagne and Handel... but it's to late now to do it again, i'll be back tomorrow anyways as i am on a wrap up post about last season, before we start this one proper...
ReplyDeleteby the way that was me as Anonym, no idea what is happening to blogger..... agggrrr
ReplyDeleteHiii m :-)) God,. don't mention Austrian sweets!! As soon as i had written what i wrote my mind went: MOZARTKUGELN!! why not overdose on that?? mmmmmm I wish i could get hold of these in London, but sadly i don't know where to get them and it will be quite a while before i get a chance to go to Wien... sigh.. i loooove those things almost as much as Mozart's music :-))) On his music, the more i listen the more i love it!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd i think i love Trittico even before hearing it whole, 2x insights where Pappano was the showman does that to one and i have learned even more about music structures and things and he did take us very effectively back to Debussy today and with the Peli&Meli from Barbican very fresh in my mind it worked wonders! I mean they managed to convey it so well that i got all soppy on Suor Angelica then and there! And the women in this Trittico are fantabulous!!!
It's strange isn't it, i'm lookinf forward to the Trittico for my grils and to the Mozart i will openly admit for the men. Them being: Kwiecien via ze Met ( thanks very much!), Finley, Schrott, Keenlyside, Ildebrando, Castronovo and the conductors among which Davis and Pappano to name just a few of these attractions. Truly irresistible! And the ladies are quite good too. I will actually openly admit that i will probably want even more ( whether i will be able to do more than this we will see, but i already know i could :-)
Not at all surprising OiM rejected you as you show up like once every 3 months and never share. Hope that won't be the case will all these Trittician and Mozartian goodies will believe it when reviews written.
ReplyDeleteLove Pappano. Probably (certainly? easily?) best live Lohengrin (ROH, Bay. - speaking of which are you going to Meistersinger?) and a fantastic Don G. Really wish those had been DVDed, btw. Hope some tapes exist somewhere for future release.
SRSLY, that is A LOT of Mozart but with conductors, excellent double casts somewhat hard to resist. I was actually in London and saw the premiere run of the (horrible production) Don G with superb casting and then two casts of Figaro at the Met. Multiple times, of course. Didn't get all the tickets in advance but had time and went. Sometimes though I'd had enough and should stop but went anyway and ended up loving every single one. (A couple of participants from the ROH DG actually showed up in the Met Figaro which was kinda interesting).
You've got me in the mood for the Mozartkugeln. Will try to find tomorrow in midtown.
Unfortunate that AH cancelled the Trittico but she should be back later this season. In any case enjoy, and pls. write about it.
Yes i know i was lost but now i am found hopefully :-) I hate to repeat it, but you wouldn't believe what work does to one if one let's it...
ReplyDeleteAnyhow... yes of courseee i am going to Meistersinger!!! It is my favourite Wagner EVER! And remember i had the incredible amazing undeserved luck that Bryn was my first Sachs and it was his first one too :-) And i saw it twice :-) Then, equally incredibly my second one was Gerald Finley, admittedly at cinema, since i didn't get tickets for Glyneb. All this in 12m time :-) And with good casts and good conductors and good everything. Im just miffed the ROH does it at Xmas when i have to go home so i will only be able to see two...
I'll also see Rusalka twice (YNS debut at the ROH :-) and i'm to book a couple of more Traviatas, etc
Yes, pity AH cancelled i would have loved to hear her again, Having said that i believe Ermonela Jaho is perfect for Suor Angelica, the sensibility and tenderness needed for the character to feel real and believable , she's got all that. I'm certain she will be gorgeous! Actually probably even more suited ...
And i know what you say about the DG production, it's maybe not the best, but i don't think as badly of it either, the last scene with the flames is very good and i really like the cheeky ending! Mind you i don't think anyone but Simon will manage that stunning ending to the 1st part..
For now i am so looking forward to Trittico!!!
REALLY COOL.
