Jonas Kaufmann, la coqueluche du Paris

So the Manon run in Chicago is over and JK is back in Europe, more precisely Paris! And it seems the French are rolling out the red carpet for him ;-) With Romantic Arias finally appearing in France, together with the ROH Carmen DVD his Liederabend at the Garnier, and especially his Florestan are eagerly awaited. And it seems that so far they liked what they heard (la coqueluche = darling!!!)

Qobuz presents JK to the French public : "Jonas Kaufmann, un romantique à Paris... Un régal romantique " And there is a video here.

You migth have noticed that the Carmen review above is written by André Tubeuf

Here is a more extended article about JK that Mr Tuveuf has reedited with the occasion of the upcoming performances in Paris:

http://qobuz.com/blogs/andretubeuf/2008/11/04/

Le long chemin. À aucune époque on n’a beaucoup connu ça ! "

I didn't know what to pick from the article, do read it whole if you wish because it is very detailed and provides a wonderfully deep analysis of the artist.

L'indispensable Helmut Deutsch l'accompagne."

I hope he will be plesantly surprised by what he will hear when listening to the recital ... I wonder whether AT will find JK's voice different than last time he heard him?

For those of you who would like to read on, the links contain way more than i could post here, and you know what to do :-): http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ You can also find the articles on Marion's page.

So, now it seams i have to share my favourite tenor with the whole of Paris!!! Oh well, the sacrifices one must make!! ;-)

Guess i don't need to tell you where i will be on Sunday ;-)

The Jonas Kaufmann ROH Carmen DVD is out!!!!

Amendment 15 September :

Musical Criticism quote, hope they don't mind:Kaufmann's large fanclub shouldn't wait to get hold of the DVD! ;-))))

And I have it!!!!! Might have even been the first buyer ;-)

I went in for a quick browse before the show last night..that is into the ROH shop and just as i was entering i was telling myself:"You are only here for a poster for the empty walls in your flat. DON'T go buying anything else, don't touch anything, don't look at anything for longer than 3 second!" I am not very much in tune with this inner voice, as I have never walked out of that place emptyhanded!

And this proved to be no different, i've simply got no willpower!

Not in front of this anyway ;-)))

I entered the shop and good sucked up into Carmenland!!!

There was of course, the poster on the wall:

There were two different stands, one on either side of the till, one with ROH Recordings and the other with New Releases and as Carmen hits both marks, it was on both:

A huge flat screen behind the till was playing the Carmen DVD..last act... and yes, i actually sat there and watched mesmerised all the final duet...

And the loudspeakers were playing....yes indeed, the Carmen audio...the 2nd act, which was a bit disconcerning with other pictures running on the screen. Since i was hoovering about, (totally swooning!, but probably to the outside world i was just looking bored) the nice lady says, it is the DVD which you hear playing now.... oh, reallyyyy???? I would have never guessed!!!! ;-))))

Then I snapped back into action and took out my mobile phone and immortalised this memorable moment! i did ask for permission though and then suddenly lost all respect of the sales staff...i went from potential customer to "the mad women who is taking 2o pictures of a stand with DVDs". They were polite enough not to say it, but their faces were telling the tale!

After all, what is a little embarassment compared to the joy of owning this copy!

Well this gorgeous copys is all MINE!! And i don't plan on sharing it with anyone, so go get your own!
--> The ROH SHOP

PS And I did buy that poster, which will soon decorate my wall, take a guess of what it might be ;-)) and no, it ain't Carmen :-)

Jonas Kaufmann on the cover of the September Gramophone! GO GET IT NOW!!!

Can't wait to read what the Gramphone has to say about the "stage animal" Jonas Kaufmann :-)

And here is a preview of the editorial from James Inverne

With his permission i will cite:

"Now, from Germany, comes Jonas Kaufmann.
His early vocal difficulties mean that he has burst upon the international scene as a fully mature, major artist. And "artist" with Kaufmann means the full deal - the man can sing, with a full-bodied ardour that recalls the great Ramón Vinay, and act with the commitment of a Jon Vickers. Without wishing to second-guess our forthcoming review of his new Carmen DVD, I'll go out on a limb and say that his stunning Don José is the most thrillingly acted on film since that of Luis Lima (also at Covent Garden, in 1997) and perhaps the best sung of any. It is good news indeed that this film and his recent Decca arias disc will be followed next year by a German-themed recital and, for EMI, a new Madama Butterfly opposite Angela Gheorghiu."

Seems to me that a lot of tenor themed articles are filling the papers lately :-) Good to know that the hunger for tenor voices seems to have been satisfied for the moment. There are excellent appetisers, first, second courses available, and even some scrumptious deserts!!

Thanks Gramophone for this edition, first thing tomorrow morning , even before my morning espresso i'll run to the shop to get my copy!

PS And latest news caught from here : http://209.20.72.76/news/2008/jul/07/madama-butterfly-recording/ So the recording of M Butterfly has happened during July in Rome :-) Niceeee. Interesting to hear Jonas as Pinkerton!
