Jonas has many admirers in Barcelona and some where lucky to see him in Dusseldorf!! And they tell all about the experience in the comments on Joaquim's post :-))More comments to be read on Jonas there as well :-) In case you didn't know there are more Wagnerians in Catalunya ( and Spain) than in Bayreuth ( well, almost ;-)))) But from what i read in Barcelona they like Jonas singing in general, not only his Wagner...
AND... from reading the comments, there is a bit of news for meus amics in Barcelona... apprently there is a good possibility that Jonas might do a Lieder recital in Barcelona in either 2010 or 2011 ( i would think given official schedule, 2011 is more likely, but we will see). That would be great, their wish and my wish come true! :-)

ReplyDeleteDid you know that Hariclea Darclèe had sung at the Liceu, Barcelona, and had a very hot affair with Valencian bass Andrés de Segurola (very famous at the Met and close friend of Caruso, and besides teacher of Hollywood soprano Canadian Deanna Durbin, later French resident and still alive)?

Colbran, you are a treasure!!! I didn't know that!!! You have to tell me all about it :-) Now i am even happier to share her name, so she was not only a famous singer but a very interesting women! She loved Barcelona aparently and a bass from Valencia.. amazing coincidences!!! Not that i know any basses from Valencia, but i love the city :-)

Hariclea Darclèe was very famous in Barcelona in the nineties of 19th. Century. She was a very good singer and very beautiful, as well. She had the men at her feet everywhere,included Barcelona, but one of them commented aloud his bedroom affair with her in the presence of Andrès de Segurola who was only nineteen and forced the man to fight in duel, in order to save the honour of "La Darclèe". She was very recognized to him, so she searched for him and asked the manager of the Liceu to count on the singer Count (he said he was)Andrés Perelló de Segurola to appear with her in the concert-homage the Liceu had scheduled for 1.27.1895 as a tribute to Hariclea. In the meantime they begun their private love affair, which, obviously, it did not last that much.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time de Segurola sang in a theatre and she was the first "important" love affair he enjoyed among a lot of other ones with Lina Cavalieri, Gloria Swanson, etc.
I don´t know, at the moment, whether I have recordings of Darclèe or not, this is something I have to investigate
because I have many rare ones.
